Reedsport finishes strong in Sunset Conference meet


REEDSPORT — Tyrece Gardner took home a win for Reedsport on Saturday at the Sunset Conference championships at Reedsport Community Charter School.
With the top two qualifiers in each event advancing to the 2A state championships, Gardner led the Brave by winning the high jump at 5-6 and took second in the long jump at 20-1 1/4. He also took second in the triple jump at 39-6. In all he qualified for the state championships in three events.
Colby Fowler took second in the 100 with an 11.81 time.
Reedsport would win the 4X100 relay with Colby Fowler, Ben Fowler, Ryan Dove and Brady Dexter with a 47.18 time.
Fowler took second in the javelin with a 142-1 throw.
Elsa Frakes took second in the girls 800 or the Brave with a time of 2:48.09.
Ashley Schuttpelz took second place in the 1,500 in 5:54.44. Schuttpelz also took second in the 3,000 in 12:57.09.
Leo Veopel took second in the shot put at 37-2 1/2.
The Brave have three athletess who will be competing in multiple events at the 2A state champions next week, with Fowler and Gardner each qualifying for three different events.
