State reaffirms distribution of 50m/- to each village
THE government yesterday reiterated its commitment that the promise by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr John Magufuli, of disbursing 50m/- to each village in the country would be fulfilled.Responding to a question by Khatib Haji (Konde-CUF), the Deputy Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Employment, Youth and the Disabled), Mr Antony Mavunde, explained the process to effect the promise was still in place.
He told the National Assembly here that the election manifesto of CCM of 2015/2020 clearly pointed out that one of the major strategies of empowering the people economically was, among others, disbursing 50m/- to each village in the country.
According to him, the mechanism for people’s economic empowerment goes along with planning friendly infrastructures to make such programme possible to enable funds reach the targeted beneficiaries in time.
“We have learnt through the past programmes, including the nicknamed ‘Mabilioni ya JK’ and currently we are continuing with the strategies to see how best the infrastructure will be so that these funds, once we begin disbursing will reach the targeted beneficiaries and used for what it was intended to,” the deputy minister said.
In another question, Khadija Ali (Special Seat-CCM) had pointed out that among the government’s wishes include economically empowering youths and women and wanted to know how the government was implementing such issue.
The deputy minister responded that following the enactment of the People’s Economic Empowerment Policy of 2004 together with other laws involving people’s economic empowerment, the government was implementing such plan through different means.
Among such means, he said, includes recognising the importance of training to enable youths and women to improve their economic activities and get out of poverty and invest in the technical skills sector so that youths who are graduating could develop self-employment skills.’
