Zanzibar’s IPA requires improvement

SHORTAGE of skilled labour, teaching equipment and books are issues that must be addressed should the Institute of Public Administration (IPA) need to develop faster; the House was informed here yesterday.
“We have been going on well! We started with certificates, then to diplomas and now have first degree intake. The second intake will delay until we overcome the challenges including improving infrastructure,” Minister of State, President’s Office - Constitution, Legal Affairs, Public Service and Good Governance, Mr Haroun Ali Suleiman, said.
The minister’s statement comes after some Members of the Zanzibar House of Representatives raised concern over recent media report that IPA was one of the eleven higher learning institutions in the Islands deregistered by National Council for Technical Education (NACTE), after failing to meet qualification during verification exercise.
Mr Hamza Hassan Juma (CCM - Shaurimoyo) led other backbenchers to express their concern, saying the announcement to disqualify IPA has caused panic among the students and those who graduated. IPA has been upgraded to university affiliate of State University of Zanzibar (SUZA).
