Sheikha Fatima's humanitarian campaign begins in Zanzibar
ZANZIBAR, 12th May, 2018 (WAM) -- Sheikha Fatima Global Humanitarian Campaign for Treating Women and Children has begun in Zanzibar under the slogan "We are all our Mother Fatima", with the supervision of a group of Emirati and Zanzibarian doctors, to provide the best diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive services to women and children.
The launch of the initiative, which is in line with the "Year of Zayed", is part of the Fatima bint Mubarak Volunteering Programme, and is a joint initiative between the Zayed Giving Initiative, the General Women's Union, GWU, in partnership with the Dar Al Ber Society, Sharjah Charity House, the Saudi-German Hospitals Group, Zayed Humanitarian Work Academy and Emirates Programme for Community and Specialised Volunteering.
The campaign was launched at Zanzibar to complete the mission of the "Millennial Giving Campaign" which, over the past 18 years, has reached its humanitarian mission to millions of people and treated more than 12 million patients in different countries. It is also in line with the humanitarian spirit of the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to alleviate the suffering of the underprivileged.
Noura Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GWU, said that H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the GWU, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, attaches special attention to humanitarian work and is keen to provide the best services to different segments of society, especially women and children, through attracting, qualifying and empowering women in voluntary and humanitarian fields.
Al Suwaidi added that the campaign’s message has managed to reach thousands of women and children through its humanitarian services rendered by volunteer medical staff from the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Somalia, Uganda and finally Zanzibar.
She also said that the volunteer medical teams have contributed effectively to finding realistic solutions to health problems through the formation of volunteering specialised medical teams to detect early chronic diseases and find free treatment solutions as well as putting plans to reduce the spread of diseases. Also, focus on training, qualification and building local capacities to manage and operate mobile clinics and field hospitals.
In turn, Dr. Adel Al Shameri, CEO of the Zayed Giving Initiative and President of UAE Doctors, said that the humanitarian campaign started its volunteer work in the Zanzibar villages and managed to treat more than 3,000 women and children. Free medicines were also provided through the mobile clinic which is equipped with the latest medical equipment.
Dr. Al Shameri said that the campaign aims to develop the spirit of youth and give young women skills in the management of volunteer youth teams that deal with global volunteerism through the organisation of a forum, that attracts Zanzibari women and qualifies them in managing humanitarian projects to reach the highest standards of feasibility.
He also noted that this campaign is part of Sheikha Fatima's efforts to attract young people, develop their social responsibility and employ it to serve their local and global communities.
